SMITHFIELD, R.I. — A 17-year-old Auburn High School student was killed on Interstate 295 in Rhode Island following a car crash on May 11.
Shelby DiBenedetto, of Auburn, lost control of her vehicle on I-295 north, near the exit for Route 44, around 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 11.
According to police, DiBenedetto lost control of her vehicle and swerved, hitting another car and rolling over the median. She was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital.
None of the occupants in the second vehicle were injured.
The accident remains under investigation.
