SMITHTOWN, New York – Two sisters were injured after being hit by an SUV while crossing the street.
Mabel Burgos 13, and her 9-year-old sister, Melody were hurt in an accident that has the whole town shaken.
The incident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday in Smithtown in an area that has been the site of several pedestrian accidents in recent times.
The girls were struck by an SUV and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Melody was listed in guarded condition and Mabel was held overnight for observation. The driver of the SUV was not harmed.
Police are currently investigating the cause of the accident, which occurred at a Main Street intersection where two other pedestrians were injured in January. In 2009, an 11-year-old girl was killed in the same area as she was crossing the street.

Son of Phoenix mayor injured in home accident

Jeffrey Gordon, a police officer, is currently the subject of a Phoenix PD internal investigation that could cost him his job.
The investigation was placed on hold, however, because of an accident that occurred while Gordon was doing some home improvement work.
Officer Gordon accidentally cut off his index and middle finger with a table saw while doing flooring work. Surgeons were able to reattach the fingers luckily.
Gordon was put on paid administrative leave following the incident. He is facing allegations of inappropriate contact with a city employee while on duty and the investigation is now on hold due to the incident.
Officer Gordon has been with the police department for six years. The department would not give further detail on the matter but the issue has not been raised to the level of a criminal charges. If further action is taken, Gordon could lose his job.

Teen dies in snowmobile accident in Michigan

OSCEOLA, Michigan— A teen from Rochester was killed in a snowmobile accident, making it the seventh snowmobile accident-related death this year.
Daniel DeSanctis, 16, of Webster, was operating a snowmobile on the Osceola-Michigan Mills trail at around 2:45 p.m. on Monday when he lost control of the vehicle and veered off the trail. The snowmobile then slid down an embankment and hit a number of trees.
His body was discovered by people in the group he had been snowmobiling with, who called paramedics for help. DeSanctis was then airlifted to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica, where he later died from his injuries.
Investigators are still trying to determine the reason that DeSanctis lost control.
The last snowmobile accident occurred just a few days before this one. Timothy Wright, 56, was killed on Friday night in Lewis County after his snowmobile struck a tree that had fallen into the roadway.
There have been a total of seven snowmobile accidents since the beginning of the year, occurring on Jan. 21, Jan. 29, Feb. 5, Feb. 6, Feb. 12, Feb. 18 and this past Monday.

A bus driver transporting special needs children was charged following an accident with a pickup truck

VIRGINIA – A driver was charged in an accident involving a school bus transporting special needs children.
The accident happened on Tuesday at the intersection of Route 53 and Route 618 in Fluvanna County.
An Albemarle County school bus for special needs students was en route to Stone Robinson Elementary School when it was hit by a 1989 GMC pickup truck.
Reports suggest the school bus drove into the pickup’s path. The driver of the bus, Ralph Agee of Keene, 60, was charged with failure to yield the right of way.
Four people were on the bus, 2 students ages 3 and 4, a female transportation aide and the driver. The children and the aide were taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center but none of them sustained major injuries.
Agee was airlifted to the University of Virginia Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. His condition remains unknown.
An investigation of the accident is currently being conducted by police.
