Oklahoma minister dies following motorcycle accident

SAND SPRINGS, Oklahoma – A Sand Springs minister that had disappeared from his home has recently died of injuries from a motorcycle crash.

David Emigh, 58, the pastor of the Word of Life Fellowship in Sand Springs, was driving his 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle around 8 p.m. when he lost control and crashed into a tree. According to Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Emigh was heading north on Oklahoma 11 roughly five miles north of 156th Street North when the incident occurred.

Emigh was to St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, where he died from his injuries on Wednesday. He was last seen at his home on Monday.

Sand Springs Assistant Police Chief Mike Carter said that Emigh’s wife, Sharon Emigh, filed a missing person’s report on her husband at around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

 

This was not the first time Emigh disappeared, however. On Dec. 15, 2010, he did not come home nor did he appear at his church. A passer-by in Cleveland spotted him two days later behind the wheel of his pickup truck in a Wal-Mart parking lot.

Emigh returned home that day.
Although his family has stated that he was “physically well,” authorities have stated that Emigh had “a medical issue that will be dealt with privately.”

Emigh and his wife started the Word of Life Fellowship, an independent, nondenominational church, over 30 years ago. It soon grew to become one of the area’s leading churches.
