Fatal accident victim in Dubuque identified

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The body of a school employee that was killed in an accident early Tuesday morning at Dubuque Community Schools has been identified.

The victim was identified as thirty three-year-old Lawrence Steven Brehm, an electrician for the school district’s maintenance department.

The incident occurred at around 5 a.m. while Brehm was working in a parking lot outside the district’s buildings and grounds department.

He was hit by a snowplow truck that was being driven by Michael Metcalf, 48, of Asbury, and died at the scene of the accident.

Brehm, who has worked for the district since 2005, will be greatly missed by his employers and co-workers.

“It’s a very close knit group of fine men who’ve worked together for a long time, and this is a tragedy certainly for the family and for the school district, but certainly for that department,” said district superintendent, Dr. Larie Godinez.

Dubuque police are still investigating the accident and say that it may be several weeks before any details are released.
