On Wednesday, the roof of the five-story garage a Miami-Dade College collapsed on top of workers. Witness heard the sound and saw construction workers running out of the structure

Victoria Buczynski, who was working across the street said, “It fell to the ground like a house of cards. The construction workers started running out, screaming. It was loud. Our entire building shook.”

After the collapse, emergency crews determined that three men were trapped under the rubble. They located two of the men yesterday. The third man was found just after one this morning, but his legs had to be amputated so he could be removed; he later died in the hospital.

At least ten other workers were hospitalized with critical injuries. No students were injured because the garage was still under construction.

Ajax Building Corp was in charge of the project which was due for completion in December.

In a statement Ajax president, William Byrne said “While we do not yet know the cause of this tragic collapse, we are committed to working actively and cooperatively with our design and construction partners and local, state and federal authorities to determine the cause of the accident.”

According to authorities, the workplace accident victim was 23-year-old Brandon Woodard. Woodard died Aug. 28 at a Weatherford lodge construction site.

According to local police, the 38-year-old man was working on a home construction project Monday afternoon when the incident occurred.

The man, who has not been identified was electrocuted and did not have a pulse when paramedics arrived at the scene.

Responders administered CPR and the victim was then transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The tunnel was undergoing construction when some material became loose. The two workers were alone in a segment of the 3-foot-diameter tunnel near Lake Mead National Recreation Area when they were hit by the material at around 4:30 p.m. Monday.

One worker was killed while the other sustained minor injuries. Their names have not been identified.

“During the assembly of some segments of the tunnel ring, one of the segments became loose, and the grout material exploded and hit two workers,” said Southern Nevada Water Authority spokesperson Nicole Lise.

The multi-million-dollar project to renovate the tunnel began in 2009 and work was delayed roughly two years ago due to flooding and cave-ins. Because Las Vegas depends on Lake Mead for roughly 90 percent of its drinking water, construction recommenced despite concerns. The new tunnel is to be three miles long.

According to authorities, the tunnel is not flooded and intact. The water authority will begin an investigation into the accident as well. It is unclear when construction might resume.

MARYLAND – An accident outside Arundel Mills Mall on Friday morning has left one man dead and another with life-threatening injuries.

A wall collapsed on the victims just outside Arundell Mills Mall on Friday morning.

At around 10:30 a.m., emergency personnel responded to an accident in which a 30-foot concrete wall collapsing on two construction workers as the pre-cast structure was being moved.

One of the victims, a 35-year-old male, was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries.

The other victim died at the scene of the accident, and his body still remains trapped under the rubble. Authorities have not released any information on him.

As of 11:30 a.m., emergency crews were waiting for a medical examiner to further determine what happened and were also waiting for help from the “collapse unit,” an engine that can pull the rubble off the victim.

The area where the accident occurred has been closed off for investigation.

This is the second time this month that construction workers have been seriously wounded while working at the site.

Earlier this month, a casino construction worker was hospitalized after a piece of concrete fell on his leg.

The site has been under construction since January.
