Philadelphia, PA- Last Week, Food Network Star Mark Summers was involved in grisly traffic accident that nearly destroyed the left side of his face.

Summers, who was returning from a shoot for Restaurant Impossible, was riding in a cab, when they were caught in a “torrential downpour;”  the cab hydroplaned and the driver lost control, People reported.

The crash slung Summers into the partition between the front and back of the cab, seriously damaging the left side of his face.

“Everything on the left side (of my face) from the eye socket down was wiped out,” Summers told People, “My eye socket got all swollen. I’m having trouble seeing completely out of my left eye… There is a lot of titanium and screws in my face.” He added that he was lucky not to have brain damage.

The Unwrapped host endured four hours of surgery but his surgeon informed him that everything went back in place and he should heal without too much damage.

Traumatic brain injuries are common injuries in auto accidents which can lead to permanent disability in many sufferers. Those who suffer this type of injury often have to relearn how to walk and talk, among many other abilities people take for granted. The financial problems these accident victims face just compound their struggle to lead a quality post-accident life.

When negligence is the cause of an injurious accident, accident attorneys will fight to get the brain injury victim the settlement they deserve.

New Mobile App Assists Motorists With Traffic Accidents

August 16th, 2012    Posted in Accident News

New York, NY- If you drive a car there is little doubt that you have been involved in at least one accident in your lifetime. According to the NHTSA, there is a traffic accident worldwide every minute, and in the U.S. there has been an increase of fatal accidents. Even with the commonness of auto accidents few people know what information they should share or not share following a collision, but a new mobile app, WreckCheck, should help clear up some confusion.

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) recently surveyed people involved in accidents and found that many were not aware of what personal information they should share or when to call police. Generally, individuals need to only share their names and correct insurance information. But many people tend to give out their phone numbers, addresses and driver’s license numbers, putting them at significant risk for identity theft which is a growing problem.

The NAIC developed WreckCheck to assist motorists following a traffic accidents. The app will guide an individual through the steps they need to take immediately after an accident and will help them create their own accident report. It also gives tips for staying calm and alert on the streets. WreckCheck also makes it easier to capture photographs and document the necessary information to file an insurance claim. The app is free and available for the iPhone and Android.

The steps a driver takes following a collision is crucial, especially if they plan on hiring an accident lawyer to obtain compensation for injuries or property damage. Collecting the right information and photographic documentation of the accident scene can provide valuable information for your attorney.

Traffic Deaths in U.S. Rise to Their Highest Point Since 2008

July 25th, 2012    Posted in Accident News

Traffic accidents are among the most common in the United States, but recently, the death toll has risen drastically.

According to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) report released on Friday, the number of traffic deaths in the first three months of 2012 increased by 13.5 percent to the highest they have been since 2008, making it the largest spike in traffic deaths for the second quarter since 1979.

Although the number of roadway deaths in the country had been steadily declining over the past seven years, NHTSA’s report revealed that roughly 7,630 people died in motor vehicle accidents in the first quarter of 2012, up from 6,720 deaths in the first quarter of 2011.

NHTSA speculates that one cause for the increase in traffic-related deaths can be attributed to a larger number of Americans driving. The administration explained that motor vehicle travel rose by roughly 9.7 billion miles, or about a 1.4 percent, in the first quarter.

Conversely, 2011 saw the lowest level of U.S. roadway travel since 2003.

An increase in the number of drivers on the road is the perfect breeding ground for motor vehicle accidents to occur. While some auto accidents can be avoided, others happen without a moment’s notice, leaving a victim scared, injured, or can possibly even take their lives.

When roadway accidents occur, it is imperative to speak to an accident lawyer to file a claim. Personal injury victims may be entitled to a large compensation for their pain and suffering and accident attorneys do whatever it takes to ensure victims obtain justice.
