San Leandro biker killed in car crash

ASHLAND, California – A 56-year-old man died following an accident on Wednesday morning at Fairmont Drive and Foothill Boulevard.

The incident occurred shortly after 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday. A San Francisco woman was driving a 1995 Honda Civic eastbound on Fairmont Drive in unincorporated San Leandro when she crashed into Timothy Bucher, who was riding his bike.

Bucher, of San Leandro, was thrown into the air and hit his head on the car’s windshield.

Although he was wearing a helmet, Bucher’s injuries were too great. He was transported to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley after the accident where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Honda, a 32-year-old woman, was not injured.

Police do not believe that either drugs or alcohol were involved but continue to investigate the incident.
