AURORA, CO – Many were anxiously waiting to see the results of accused Aurora movie theater shooter James Holmes’ court appearance, but what people got was slightly shocking.

Holmes sat in court Monday with bright orange hair and a dazed look on his face. He appeared confused and indifferent, leading many to wonder if in fact he has a psychological problem, or if it’s just all an act to seek a reduced sentence.

Experts are trying to analyze the former Ph.D. student’s behavior, trying to look for evidence of psychosis from his reactions in court. While he was not on drugs or medication at the time of the hearing, Holmes acted strange and aloof, often seeming as though he would fall asleep.

Holmes has been accused of killing 12 people and injuring 58 others after entering an Aurora movie theater during a midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” and opening fire into the crowd at random.

At the time of his arrest, Holmes told police he was the Joker, a fictitious villain from the Batman saga, and when authorities placed evidence bags on his hands to preserve gunpowder residue, he pretended the bags were puppets.

Some believe Holmes may have bouts of mania while others speculate he might be a sociopath. Regardless of his mental status, one thing is for sure, there are many deeply saddened victims and loved ones who will anxiously await retribution for Holmes’ unspeakable actions.
